INTERNATIONAL. Women in Travel Retail (WiTR) is calling for support for its networking and fundraising event in Cannes, with the focus on The Hope Foundation.

A meeting will take place in the Palais des Festivals on 4 October from 5.30 – 7pm. As reported, WiTR named The Hope Foundation as its chosen charity for 2022 earlier this year.

Since 1999, The Hope Foundation has been committed to ensuring the protection of children who are living on the streets or in the slums of Kolkata (India). The foundation acknowledges that the children are denied the basic human rights of Survival, Protection, Development, and Participation as advocated under the United Nations Convention on Rights of the Child.

Wherever possible, Hope restores children to their families, but where home environments do not exist or still pose a threat, the youngsters are placed in Hope protection homes. The foundation’s five homes offer an integrative approach to all aspects of childcare covering education, nutrition, healthcare, sports and recreation.

The Hope Foundation was suggested as this year’s charity by WiTR member Aisling Walsh of Butlers Chocolates.

The WiTR project aims to raise at least €15,000 to replace a bus used to transport women and children at Hope’s five homes, which house 100 children.

It will enable the women in the foundation’s Mother and Child Care Unit to travel to vocational training centres, take children to school, and to sport clubs and parks for training, competitions and extracurricular activities.

WiTR noted that one company within travel retail has already pledged a substantial donation. However, the group hopes to secure further corporate sponsorship in addition to money raised at the charity event.

“We are enormously grateful to them for helping to get the bus on the road and are asking the industry to help by sponsoring the cost of different parts of the bus to make up the balance,” a WiTR spokeswoman said. “We can all work together to make this happen; every donation makes a difference.”

WiTR highlighted the amounts needed to boost the fund-raising effort: Bonnet €500; Bumpers €900; Front Lights €500; Back Lights €500; Engine €5,000; Five Wheels €250 per wheel; Five Tyres €200 per tyre; 15 Seats €200 per seat.

WiTR is welcoming all supporters (male and female) to its event. To make a donation in advance please contact WiTR Vice Chair Gerry Munday at gerrymunday2811@gmail.com or Aisling Walsh at Butlers Chocolates aisling@butlers.ie.
